Mermaid Horror Movies To Binge Watch This Halloween

When Halloween is just around the corner, the best way to get into the spirit is by watching spooky horror movies. Cozy up with your favorite blankey and a hot drink and be prepared to tremble in your seat with these scary mermaid movies.

Since this is a mermaid blog, I'll be sharing some of the best mermaid horror movies to get you into the Halloween mood.

She Creature

This is one of the first mermaid horror movies I was introduced to.

Released in 2001, She Creature takes place on a ship full of men and one woman, played by Carla Gugino. This creature-feature film follows two Irish carnies who capture a real mermaid, with the intention displaying her as a circus side show in the United States.

As crew members begin disappearing, they'll come to realize the mermaid is not the magical, docile creature they thought she was.

Mermaid Down

Mermaid Down is a mashup of a gore horror movie and a spooky ghost tale. Except, in this movie, the ghost is not the antagonist.

Mermaid Down is about a mermaid who is captured by greedy sailors and has a horrific act performed on her. The remainder of the movie is spent with her as a human in an asylum with troubled girls.

I don't want to spoil anything, so that's all I'll say. I have seen this movie and enjoyed it. It wasn't overly spooky, but still perfect for a mermaid movie night.

Erzulie

I was excited when the makers of this indie film reached out to me to do a review. I watched the movie, which I found to be enjoyable.

Be prepared for a classic tale of scary happenings in a cabin in the woods. It features young women summoning a mermaid goddess, and an ex boyfriend come to cause trouble.

Killer Mermaid

Not all mermaids are pretty and magical. Just like the one shown in this mermaid horror movie from 2014.

This movie features two women on a vacation who decide to explore an abandoned military base, where they discover a watery lair, home to the killer mermaid. Their trip devolves into a terrifying fight for survival.

There are more mermaid horror movies, but most of them are cheesy b-list movies that I wouldn't recommend. These are the best mermaid horror movies, and ones that I've seen that have left me thrilled.
