Did you know that Hans Christian Anderson, the original writer of the timeless classic The Little Mermaid, lived in Denmark? But the Little Mermaid isn't the only good thing to come from Denmark.
Hygge (pronounced hoo-gah) is a Danish concept that refers to a feeling of coziness, comfort, and contentment. It’s about creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the simple pleasures of life, often with good people, good food, and a sense of well being.
The Danes embrace the concept of hygge by doing their best to live comfortably and peacefully. It's not hard to do in a country that is one of the happiest in the world. They foster a culture of community, peace, and work-like balance, while enjoying good food, bikeable cities, sustainability, safety, and free healthcare.
Both "hygge" and "hug" are believed to have originated from the Norwegian word "hugga" which means "to comfort/to hug."

So, how can we all embrace this kind of lifestyle? You could always take a trip to Denmark to see the beautiful coastlines, Viking history, castles, and the iconic Little Mermaid statue created, by Edvard Eriksen.

You can also bring hygge to your own home with cozy blankets, comfortable clothes, nicely scented candles, calming music, soft slippers, and some hot chocolate or your favorite tea.
Here are some products to help you achieve hygge, the mermaid way:

This soft mermaid throw blanket will keep your warm and cozy. It is useful, but also beautiful with it's lovely mermaid art, depicting an under-the-sea world.

Step into coziness with these mermaid slippers! Enjoy a relaxing, slow morning by sliding your feet into these comfy slippers before getting started with a busy day. Better yet, stay in them ALL day if you have no where to be!

After a healing bubble bath, lounge around in this robe until you feel like putting on clothes again. The soft material and mermaid scale pattern will make you feel like a mermaid goddess living her best life.

Bring on the good vibes with the perfect beachy candle. This one is stylish, with it's ocean blue color and seashell design. It will make any room smell delightful!

On a chilly day, a steaming cup of your favorite coffee, tea, or hot chocolate can be just what you need to warm up inside and out. This beautiful mug is the perfect vessel to hold your favorite beverage on a calm morning.

The best way to achieve hygge is to sit down in a comfortable spot with your favorite book. The Mermaid by Christina Henry is one of the best mermaids books there is, in my opinion. I've read it twice, and will probably read it again at some point!

So, now you have learned a bit about the culture of Denmark, and hopefully you've gained some inspiration to live a peaceful, cozy life, while still embracing your mermaid nature.
